Patient Identifier List

R |
HIEBus requires the primary identifier for the patient to be supplied via the first repetition in PID-3.The first repetition of PID-3 will be used to identify the patient’s primary identifier. All repetitions of PID.3, including the first, will generate identifiers attached to the patient’s demographic record.

PID-5 |
Patient Name
|
XPN |
RE |
The first repetition should contain the legal name. The “legal” name is used in the RL system. HIEBus will use the name in PID-5 with name type code (component 7) = “L” if that is available. If only a single name is provided and component 7 is blank HIEBus will assume it is the legal name. If nonstandard name type codes are used, then they will need to be mapped to a canonical legal name type term to be used in record linking.

RE |
Preferred values from HL7 Table 0005. Race code coding system or dictionary will need to be provided to CareEvolution to map the race codes for use in record linking. Only the first repetition is persisted.

PID-11 |
Patient Address
|
XAD |
RE |
The “home” address is used for RL. If a single address with a blank type (component 7) is provided HIEBus will assume it is the home address. A standard HL7 type code of “H” in component 7 will be used as the patient’s home address. If different address type codes are used, CareEvolution will need to be provided a dictionary such that the home address can be identified.
