Caregiver Identity

The preferred method of identifying caregivers (doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses, and other providers) is by NPI. If NPI is not available, HIEBus can accept local identifiers, and they will be scoped by record authorities as with patients. The caregiver record authority need not be the same as the patient record authority.

Primary Care Provider

HIEBus would like to receive the patient’s PCP if it is known. The preference is to receive the PCP in a ROL segment with a role code of “PP” in ROL-3.1, but HIEBus will also pull the patient’s PCP from PD1-4 if it is not provided in a ROL segment.
